Hi everyone!
Well I didn't really post in a long time so I figured this be a great opportunity too give my opinion.
One major thing has changed in the hobby of Le's Collecting.
When I first got into the hobby people would collect different categories of chips like :
LE's , Ac , Vegas , Small towns , roulettes , etc.
Le's was just one category because not too many where issued.
But this has changed. A casino gets many benefits from issuing Le Casino Chips. So many are doing it now and often.
So now some of the people that collected LE's are dropping off because they want them all. But many new people started collecting and they collect only certain category's like :
Hard Rock , Holidays, Cars , Special Events , Non-holidays, 5's , 25's etc.
So they hobby is growing like crazy. Most of collect for fun. But we all know we still care about our financial investment. And we do feel good if we see the value of chips go up. And our collections increase in value. And I know Le's increase more in value than most obsolete chips.
I deal in both and I sold chips as high as $13,500 for a single casino chip. And in obsoletes the only major price increase that I have seen was in chips that where going for the $800 and above range. And most collectors can not afford that.
If you take 100 chips that sold for under $10 5 years ago from both categories ( Obsoletes and Le's ). You will see that the Limited Edition collection went up a lot more than the Obsoletes.
And another thing is with LE's chips you always know what is out there. You never have too worry that one day you will wake up and read the chipboard and find out that Someone has just found 200 of your rare chip and the price is in the dumps now.
Another thing what makes LE's chips great is that they are cross-collectibles. You but a Corvette on a casino chip and everyone will want it. You have litteraly thousands of potential customers who want that chip and the issue was less than 1000.
Do you all remember when MGM issued the Betty Boop Casino Chip. They made 10,000 of that chip and all collectors where outraged that they made such a large # of casino chips. But all these chips are sold out and the Chip sells retail for about $45-$60 .
Remember when the cure $25 chips came out. I sold mein for $250 and a lot of the old timers where offended and mad that I could ask so much for a casino chip. Well at the last convention I saw that chip go for as high as $500 . I wish I could buy all the once I sold back for $250 now.
Okay here is one more for you.
This year year at the national I didn't expect to do a lot in sale. I figured if I did $5000 the whole weekend I be happy. Since I didn't have that many good older chips. I sold most of it through my regular customers and ebay and my web site. And Haven't found too much old stuff lately.
So I mainly had le's for sale. I had one Big case with $7 chips and then binders with older stuff.
Well I exceeded my hopeful $5000 in sales the first day. And it was 90% Le's. I couldn't believe it. There where so many new collectos asking questions and having want list.
Le's are here too stay and they are becoming bigger and bigger. And most of the new comers join the hobby because of Le casino Chips.
Best regards
Rene
