Howdy,
I learned a lot watching them, too. Like what not to do if I ever realize a dream and produce a broadcast and/or cable cast poker event.
Being familiar with the game I found it hard to follow what was going on and for someone who has played kitchen table poker it would be impossible to follow.
They are trying to do with poker what we are trying to do with the CCGTCC. Get exposure and add legitimacy to it. Here they take us through an hour of it, but don't educate the viewers at all. It would have been helpful if the commentators had not used terms that poker players know and no one else. If they had educated the viewers then the use of such terms as coming over the top, flop, turn, river, draw, dog, off suit etc. would have been ok.
Furthermore, they didn't do much to explain the hands we were watching. This isn't a face-paced sport where there is lots of physical action and unless you have someone good at the mic they will never get the following they need.
Sadly, I have never been able to view an episode of Friday Night Poker, but would love to see how they are. The use of under-the-table cameras is a huge advantage as the viewers can be in on every hand not just the hands that are turned over.
