... the trademark issue, Archie. I am no trademark expert, but based on what I know about the subject, Al's post is essentially correct in how we have to handle protection of the club logo as an asset.
I do agree with Eric's opinion on the liability issue. However, I see nothing wrong with the club licensing the use of the logo, with appropriate identifiers (as was allowed for individual members who include the "member" designation), so long as we are protected from liability. That would mean being a named insured on any policy of liability insurance issued on behalf of the promoter.
It would not be unusual in the business world for such licensing to involve the payment by the promoter of a licensing fee. I have no opinion of whether such a fee should be charged by the club.
I do think that the club should help support any responsible promotion of the hobby and believe that Jim Fredrickson & Allan Anderson have demonstrated that they deserve such support, as long as the liability issue is addressed.
