Went to a coin show this weekend in search of stuff and found someone with these. He wouldn’t sell them to me, because he was waiting to hear back from a ‘good customer’ but I thought I would see if I could get an idea of what they were and their worth. The problem is I don’t have a picture, so here are 1000 words.
The dealer thinks they all come from the same place. 6 of them have the same metal inlay (?) so that is possible, however there are 2 or 3 that don’t.
Only one has wording on it. It is a chocolate brown (SLIGHTLY marbled) with the following words in white cursive to the right of the metal inlay on one side only. One word on each line.
The first word either starts with a C or a G and might be Cinq or Ginq. Below that are:
Mille
Francs
I think this one had either 1000 or 5000 on it. My French tells me it should be (Cinq) Five Thousand Francs.
The jetson is approximately 3” X 2” and the corners have all been clipped.
The jetson appears to be partially drilled and then the metal inlay is placed in the hole.
The metal inlay is cut out or stamped out of a single piece of thin metal. They are embossed and there is one of each side of the chips/jetsons with what appears to be a small tack/rivet(?) going through both of them and holding them to the jetson.
There was another one of the same size, but it was an orange without writing and had the inlay.
There was another jetson that was red and had what appeared to be a serial number, however it was oval and about 3” at the widest. It also had a metal inlay, but I don’t remember the number on it.
There were 3 or 4 round chips that had the metal inlay as well.
Then there were two chips that didn’t have the inlays. They were a milky white (ivory?). One had a red center with what appeared to be the initials C, I and S all over laid, so I couldn’t tell you what order they would be in CSI, SCI, SIC, ISC or ICS.
I know this sounds impossible, but I thought I would see if someone knew.
Thanks so much for reading!
