Another hat in the ring

I am announcing my candidacy for the position of Vice-President of the CC & GTCC Board of Directors. I take the responsibility of the position very seriously.

There are a lot of things that I would like to see the Club accomplish, some of them new ideas and some of them a continuation of current initiatives.

Promotion of the Club – This is a great hobby and I think we should expand our efforts to attract new members. In addition we should be trying to attract the attention of the casinos and chip manufacturers to help support our hobby. We certainly have some common interests.

Building fund – I wholeheartedly support the building committee. I think this project is extremely important to the future of the Club and we have to realize this is a long-term goal that will take a sustained effort.

Member involvement – The current Board has started getting more members involved in the workings of the Club through such things as the Building fund and Standards committee. If the Club is going to continue to prosper we need the participation of as many members as possible.

Slabbing – I believe slabbing is a detriment to our hobby and I support the current ban on slabs in the auction and exhibits. I would also support a ban of the selling or promoting of slabbing services by a Convention table holder since this does not meet the definition of “casino memorabilia”. I will not support a ban on the selling of slabs by any member or dealer at the Convention. I believe every member has the right to collect whatever he or she desires.

There are certainly many other important issues that confront the Club and I will be glad to answer any questions anyone has.

For those who I may not know, a little background. I have been a member of the Club since 1996 and I’m a charter member of the Ohio Valley Chapter. I served as Convention Chairman from 1999 until 2001 and I was awarded an Honorary Life Membership in 2001 for my service to the Club as Convention Chairman. I’m also a member of the “Kruse family” for the Building Fund committee. My main interest is Nevada fractionals and Las Vegas obsoletes. I live in Lexington, KY with my wife Middleton.

I ask for your support and promise to represent the interest of all members in a conscientious manner. Thank you.

Wayne Thompson
