...questions.
I have real close to complete collections of the Borland and Osborn counterfits. I am not talking about the Borland fantasy chips you see on ebay today, (I have almost a complete collection of those also). I also have a rather large collection of counterfits passed at casinos by who knows who.
BTW, I challenge anyone to start now and put together a complete collection of the Borland counterfits or fanasty chips. I've been at it since 1995 and still lack 2 or 3. I think Don Leuders has been at it longer and he needs the same ones.
I spent months researching the Borland counterfits, (thanks mostly to a former employee of BJ) many of them had been sold as real chips for years. I feel like I am responcible for a lot of them being Ided for TCR, (many sellers are not happy with me )
The Whalen brasscores are new to the hobby (about 18 months) It is sure easier to get some now and let people know what is real and what isn't, than it was spending a lot of time digging and begging for information.
A number of the brasscores have already been sold for BIG money to unsuspecting collectors. They are just f**ked A well known dealer has been tossed out of the club, deservedly so. Three more ought to be.
I would hope that my knowledge of this type of chip could prevent at least one member from getting taken. It would be tough to have knowledge without having some of them. Knowing Whalen also helps.
This is probably the best fake brass story to date.
Chipper A sells a chip to chipper B. Tells him its one of a kind. I have been told $4,000. Chipper B goes to a chip show and happens to run into Whalen. Since they both collect brass, chipper B asks to see his collection. Sure, why not. Chipper B opens the 1st binder and on the 1st page is his one of a kind chip. Chipper B says, where did you get this? Whalen says, I made it. Chipper B says, I've got one. Whalen says, where did you get it? Chipper B says, chipper A. Whalen says, on yeah I made that one too!!!!
I would hope having them and knowing about them could prevent this from happening. The internet has give up the chance to spread the word very quickly.
As far as what happens after I go to the big chip heaven or h*ll . All 15,000 plus chips I have are in a chip program, scans front and back. All have every bit of information I know about them in the individual files. I also have a rather large data base of chip faqs. If someone crooked gets them, I guess I'll be glad I won't know.
On the other hand, when the time gets close, I might consider donating everything to Kruise if he ever gets off his a*s and gets the club building built.
