I covered President Nixon when he visited Green Bay WI for a $1000 a plate dinner. As he was getting off of the plane he made a speech and for some reason the Secret Service guy let me stand by the portable stairs. The speech he made had some significance to the Vietnam war and was used in commercials for a few years. You could see my hand and microphone waving in front of Nixon. I also guess that the Secret Service didn't know my true feeling about the war or they never would have let me get that close.
