Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and City Council
members met Friday but failed to reach a
compromise on development agreements for
the city's three casinos to build permanent
gambling halls.
Kilpatrick told reporters after the meeting that
he won't budge from the plan he originally
negotiated with the casinos.
"We're not going to go back and nickel and
dime these developers to death," Kilpatrick
said.
The agreement in principle, which Kilpatrick
negotiated in March, calls for the MGM Grand,
Greektown and MotorCity casinos to each build
a 400-room hotel, give the city $34 million
apiece and let the city keep $150 million they
paid for riverfront property they will not use.
