On the other hand, several trips through the panhandle have been less than pleasant. I got a speeding ticket in Amarillo once (1967) at about 2:00 in the morning -- and the cop took me directly to a judge who was on the bench at that time of the morning!!
Also made the drive northwest from Dallas through Lubbock and on to Amarillo once. Took me about a week to get the grit out of every pore of my body.
