I disagree. Your statement makes it sound like you know of eighteen people willing to pay that much for this chip. I only see ONE collector that has bid $660 and all others were less than that. Bidding started at $1 so you really don't know that the amount the other bids were for. Also this is the number of bids NOT the number of unique bidders. I only see approx 12 different bidders on that auction.
I do respect your opinion and enjoy a constructive debate. However I felt this statement was misleading. I do agree with some of your statements though.
Hard rocks chips got me into the hobby and once I found about the 2000 Cinco chip, I almost gave up my desire to build a complete collection. I did however decide I wanted to try to acquire all the chips and today enjoy my collect greatly.
I have feeling both ways on this subject...
I realize not everyone wishes to spend the high amount of money required to collect every Hard Rock chip because of the expense. But there are a lot of other chips that people can collect from other casinos. I feel this hobby needs a mix of both hard to get chips and the easy to find objects.
Your statement about land minds and this collection is a good one. I thought having one hard-to-get chip was acceptable in the set. I hope this is not a pattern that will continue to play out in the future. Otherwise I'm sure it will deter others (especially new collectors) from trying to build complete sets.
