Here's Wynn's pitch on the problem: (Review/Journal)
"There's no question what the problem is,"
Wynn said. "The lawyers are getting rich and
the public's getting screwed. The public's
being victimized by the trial lawyers, most of
whom are settlement experts trained to extract
as much as possible without taking a case to
trial."
There has been a substantial increase in medical costs due in part to successful law suits brought after accidents and injuries at the casinos and elsewhere. Wynn calls on Gov. Guinn to call a special session of the Nevada Legislature to bring law reform to the escalating costs of personal injury law suits.
The real solution then is to kill the lawyers and let the injured persons suffer silently in poverty.
Footnote: As to Wynn's scathing remarks about those kind of lawyers who gain settlements and not go to trial, let me say that 1) the lawyers have no guns pointing at the insurance companies but 2) what they do have is the Insurance company understandable fears of large verdicts if the action does go to the jury. There are two problems to be faced but one of them is not pre-trial settlements. Those save the insurance companies money.
