I posed this same question several weeks ago on the ChipBoard. The issue is ... is there a need for chip authentication and could the slabbing companies provide that service.
First, the brass core issue definitely indicates that there is a need to authenticate, at least some, casino chips.
Second, could the slabbing companies provide authentication services? Hypothetically, they could. Practically, ABSOLUETLY NOT.
The slabbing companies have absolutely refused to cooperate with the chip collecting hobby. They will not reveal their grading standards, they will not document their expertise in grading and authenticating casino chips, and they will not tell us exactly what the slabbing guarantee will provide.
Although there may some legitimate reasons why someone would want to slab some casino chips, (at least for authentication and not for grading) it would be too dangerous to give the slabbing companies any foothold in the chip collecting hobby. You should never do business with someone that you cannot trust.
