Hello everyone,
I have returned from my trip and had a GREAT time. We traveled over 2000 miles. Went to nearly every town in Nevada. A friend & I made many calls to track down chips. It is very hard to get with people in these small towns. They all have things "buried". Some deals have taken me 10 years to get. Such as the Miner's Club Mountain City $5 chips I found 2 years ago.
I did find some great chips I will post tomorrow. Right now have to get more up on ebay!
Before I left my friend & I did some major hunting on the Westside of Vegas- where the Town Tavern is & where about a dozen other clubs were, starting as early as the late 30's. We really worked this area & while talking to every person we saw on every corner & passing out & hanging up 150 flyers we finally found a couple of chips. The Town Tavern issue before the current chips which are Ultra New Town Tavern. This two table poker room became the Ultra New in 1998 although I can see no changes have been made in at least 30 years. Originally opening as Town Tavern in 1955. A guy still had 3 $1 chips in his truck.
From knocking on doors following leads
I made a great find of some New Brown Derby $1 and $5 diecar mold chips. Also found a super important piece of casino history: The original unused blackjack table layouts. In red! With the club name & hat design too. I will have the one extra on display & up for offers at my show table.
I have found there are two different colored browns on the $1, one is lighter. The other more dark chocolate. The $5 has inserts that are light brown and dark brown. Definitely different chips. I cleaned some to make sure it wasn't just dirt. They must of done a reorder sometime while opened 1979 to 83. No $25's were found. I guess the only ones out there are the 7 I found about 8 years ago.
Special deal for chip club & board readers.
Order now & get your choice or both the $1 & $5 or even all 4 to include the color variants at just $25 each. Add $1 shipping please to the total. If you want the few real nice ones I found I want $40 each for the $1 or $5. Others have some use, maybe some edge nicks but nice stamps. I will not send junk. Satisfaction always Guaranteed!
Email me & let me know if you are interested.
I also made a super discovery. Some 8 by 10- photos of the Cotton Club! Showing the black patrons in full action on a poker, blackjack & craps table. Also a super outside view of this old place that is older than I thought! Am getting copies made to have for sale soon. Will post next week I hope. No Cotton Club chips are around.
In all my research & talking to people & travels I have come to the conclusion that chips are out there. It is just very hard to find them & there really is not much around. Once you find them though you have to negotiate to buy them. That can be the hard part!
