Here's a warning about reserving the cheapest car in the inventory. I usually reserve the 'economy' car, the lowest rate the car company has available, based on the comparison prices my travel agent quotes. I've found that more than half the time, they run out of these and I get a bigger car at the same rate. Even if I get the economy model, it's usually a Geo Metro or Subaru, which are not bad for shuttling one person around Las Vegas.
Last week, I used Thrifty for the first time in quite a while. The car I was offered was a 3 cylinder asian car. It had no trunk! I was forced to upgrade just to get a place to stash my luggage before and after hotel checkin. The upgrade cost me $7 a day, and the week cost me nearly $200 with taxes and tourist fees! Best to ask for examples of the car you are reserving.
I've never had this problem with Alamo and will probably return to them for Las Vegas cars in the future.
