I use both WinZip and Direct CD so the span may work.

The chips are not a problem yet, my collection is still VERY small and as you pointed out chip scans take up very little room especially when scanned at 150~200 dpi. Many chips only need one scan if both sides are the same, currency however is never that way and the notes are a lot biggger in size than the chips. I scan at 150dpi and one side averages 50~75K. So currency image directories 'swell up' a lot faster than chips, now add that I have collected for about 40 years! I think you can see the delemia building. It's not unmanagable, but is large enough to make backing up a bit cumbersom, AND I'm not finished .... still adding notes. That was the reason for concern. I am only backing up the Note.mdb (equivilent of Casino.mdb) and I don't have Access 97 loaded I do have Access 2000, but I don't think that is a problem.

I think that I have done all I can do and the answer is probably to 'span disks' when making a back up.
