"Are we so certain that anything rare now must be a phony, if so why are we buying chips at all. A Landmark chip that I bought at the chip show in Las Vegas for $80.00 surely would be one where it was worthwile to clean, alter or otherwise enhance its appearnace. So from now on I only buys chips directly from the Casino Cage? NOT!
When that Landmark chip you mentioned begins to make headlines because someone may be "restoring" holed and notched specimens of them (with impunity I might add) in order to make them appear as originals by replacing worn and drilled inlays ... yes, Sheldon, you have just identified the potential problem that others who are so unconcerned (like they were about slabbing) are now turning a deaf ear to this problem as well in the name of "having fun".
I'll say this one time, and one time only .... "When otherwise solid chippers deliver their drilled and notched chips to the "restorers" in our hobby ... they also contribute to the demise of our hobby, along with those who are selling this stuff as originals and offering refunds when they are found out.... and in the opinion of several legal scholars, no law has been broken."
