I don't have dates and names, but the story goes as follows:
A NYC vagrant was awarded a multi-million verdict when he successfully sued the NYC Transit Authority. He suffered the loss of limbs when he fell in front of and was run over by a subway train. He was drunk at the time. His lawyer argued that the token clerk should have realized that the vagrant was drunk and not sold him a subway token.
Another one.
You will note that bicycles now come with safety instructions that include something to the effect that the bicycle should not be used at night without proper lighting equipment and reflectors. You guessed it. Another drunk, this time on a bike, was hit by a car and hurt. The drunk's lawyer argued that the safety instructions did not specifically say that it was not safe to ride the bike at night without lights. The bicycle manufacturer was held responsible.
Are people at all responsible for their actions any more?
