OK, Lets try this a second time! Franklin Mint tokes (in the original 4 card set has a film on the actual token (and I’m not referring to the plastic take cover the 4 group)! When you touch the token, it has a waxy feel to it! This would not be tarnish (I would not want to disrupt the aging of the token (this happens on brass/silver tokens, not the stuff the Franklin Mint created).
I used a silver polishing/cleaning cloth on the token (this is a soft cloth used to clean/polish silver). Yes, I’m sure that if I used a microscope (super high powered one) I would see the scratches caused by the cloth! This buffs the token, making it have a mirror shine to it.
I will try to post a scan of 2 tokens, one I used the cloth on, one without the cloth! I would not do anything to a token if I though it would create long term damage to the 33 – 37 year old tokens.
I only do this to singles I pick up, not the sets I pick up.
Thank you all for the first set of answers, but they didn't really solve the dilemma of token cleaning/polishing.
