The coins in the Central America treasure trove and the Franklin Mint tokens are 2 entirely different animals. The Franklin Mint tokens are uncirculated collectors pieces, any cleaning will impair the delicate luster on the surface of the token. It will deminish the value of the tokens. I do not know the particular details of the Central America treasure trove, but I assume they were recently found after sitting on the bottom of the ocean in a shipwreck for centuries. In their found state they are not collectible. They need attention to remove centuries of abuse on the bottom of the ocean. They probably have experts making the cleanings. Coins made several centuries ago are crude in manufacture compared to the coins made in our mints today. The cruder coins would never have the luster and brilliant surfaces of today's coins. This comparison does not make sense to me.
I guess, though, that you can hire an expert museum curator to clean Franklin Mint tokens that only worth a couple of dollars each. I wouldn't, but hey it's a free world. Have fun.
