Well, maybe not entirely. I should say I agree that you should not clean coins, but it is perfectly okay to curate them!!
Don't believe me, just ask the guys who found the Central America treasure trove. Thousands of rare coins have been or are being "curated" (and, despite the supposed numismatic objection to cleaning, they are being encapsulated -- slabbed that is).
I do agree that it is probably not a good idea to clean coins/tokens with a toothbrush and brasso (like we used to do with our military brass), rouge cloth, turpentine or other harsh chemicals.
On the other hand, if I had a low value coin or token with encrusted crud on it, I'd clean it in a heartbeat. For high value items, I'd have them professionally "curated" and slabbed.
