Actually with regard to the Hard Rock chip, we don't have to have them made. Would collectors rather have them with a $15 purchase or none at all? Here's the paradox, you're damned if you do and your damned if you don't. If the overwhelming response is "no, we don't need them", then I'm sure Warwick has plenty of other things to do and we can cancel the whole idea. Funny thing about last years chip. I got one too many complaints and I point blank asked a collector if we shouldn't have had the chip made. His response, "I couldn't be there to get the chip so no one else should either." That mentality is shared by many collectors.
This paradox plagues every casino that has a working relationship to our club. They are criticized for making too many, too few, releasing to a dealer list, etc. The point is, there's nothing, NOTHING a casino, club, board of directors, editor of the club magazine, or any volunteer can do that is going to completely satisfy our members. NO MATTER HOW HARD WE TRY! It can't be done. So why bother?
When Archie suggests that casino make more to satisfy all the dealers and collectors, what do you think will happen if at the conclusion of our convention there's a few hundred chips sitting in the cage?
It's a delicate balance and I do not have the answers. And often times the casino will do what they choose. However, when volunteers who try to better the club are criticized, especially in a public forum, they are not likely to offer their services in the future. I'm not talking about me but there are a number of individuals behind the scenes that could use your energy supporting their efforts.
And Archie is right. No decision will satisfy everyone...
