You can try nail polish remover also but it also makes the chips soft after about 30 seconds. Try paint stripper if all else fails. I did it to some Lakeshore roulettes that were painted (or stained) and they did get soft but I finally got most of the paint off. In any case speed is important. Definitely not something to try with a valuable chip.
