The records of TR King showed that these chips were shipped to Frank Allen Weaver in Reno. The attribution to the Reno Card Room was done by Larry Hollibaugh and Gene Trimble.
Frank Allan Weaver was approved for a gaming license by the Nevada Gaming Control Board on Wednesday January 25, 1956. The name on the license was the Reno Card Room. The card room was located 20 1/2 Commercial Row East in Reno, NV.
The Grand Opening was held on March 3rd, 1956.
Notice that the Grand Opening ad also mentions Johnny's Bar on 19 East Douglas Alley. Aparently the rear of the establishments on Commercial Row and the rear of the establishments on Douglas butted up against one another. I am told that it was common for these establishents to have had a doorway that connected the two establishments. This arrangement could have saved the Reno Card Room from needing a liquor license or saved Johnny's Bar from needing a gaming license??
It appears that the Reno Card Room was only open for approximately 1 month. We have not been able to determine the reason for the lack of longevity.
TR King records indicate that 1000 white, 1500 Red, 1500 blue and 1000 yellow chips were manufactured. I found 76 yellow, 157 white, 78 blue and 330 red in mid-May 2001. Since then, to my knowledge, only 70 additional white and 70 additional blue were found by a NJ collector.
Only 76 complete sets are known to exist with the yellow $5 chip (only 76 known) being the key chip. The 4 chip set is available for $150. Single white or red chips are available for $25 each.
