Small time gambler, but I am a student of probability and odds. For that reason I play craps, 21 and roulette. (the roulette part is a long story based on expected loss per hour betting 50c a chip) The crap table is often the only place I can get $1 chips from a casino. The wheel is the only place I can get table chips.
I don't play VP or slots, or just about anything else in the casinos, unless it's strictly for entertainment. The odds are too long in favor of the house. No dillusions of winning.
Poker with friends. Keno (just about the worst possible bet) when I'm eating or writing postcards to friends. Four spot is the Max. The sports book is another great diversion while eating or licking wounds from any of the above.
Nickel slots and I keep all the coins and go back to the room to look for old nickels for my collection. Then I take them back to the cage. (everything from 1953 to 1995 in the Whitman books except 53-54-58 plain and a 55-D, plus 17 earlier dates in one three day trip to Elko)
Since I started collecting chips I spend less time in the casinos in LV or Reno and more time going from casino to casino. You would be suprised how that cuts my eating expenses with free popcorn, 99 shrimp cocktails, free hot dogs, and all the other coupons one can cash in for trinkets. (_8-(!)
Add in photos, video and side trips... Small time gambler, covers it.
