... that in light of the AC chip "gouging" incidents, I should probably not intentionally damage a chip. While I appreciate the caution, I would have no problem drilling an Opera House chip:
1 --- I would drill a common house chip, not an LE and especially not one of these intentional short run chips (don't have any of them, anyway).
2 --- My purpose would NOT be to run up the value of any remaining chips.
3 --- I only have one of each anyway, so would gain nothing by trying to do so, even if drilling a common house chip would have that effect.
4 --- I would still be keeping the chip myself, so the only one harmed, if at all, would be me.
5 --- In light of #4, I pretty much consider it my business what I do with any chip.
I infer no bad intent on the part of chip dealers (such as Andy Hughes) who were not involved in the production of these chips, but who managed to get some and who are now selling them at a premium.
On the other hand, the production numbers of these chips (all of them) suck. I don't know Kevin Mahoney, but Terry Lazarus is a friend and I say this with disappointment. However well-intentioned the plan may have been, it was ill-conceived and was definitely not collector friendly. I hope nothing like it ever happens again.
The only influence I have to see that it doesn't is to take my chip spending dollar elsewhere.
