The quantity of such alterations, repairs, remanufacturings, or whatever one might want to call them need to be taken into consideration along with the personal use factor. Making this stuff for the reasons that you've listed don't qualify as a reasonable explanation for making them in quantity. Expecting the explanation that they are not real to be passed on after the initial sale is naive. That might be a sad fact, but it is a fact.
