Pam,
I also have matchbooks from the Apache Hotel. However, I do not have a matchbook that specifies gaming at the Apache or Hotel Apache. My matchbooks have no reference to any type of gaming at all.
The postcards were probably shot at the Eldorado with the news bureau putting Apache on them. I don't know - this is my guess. However, the one thing I am sure of is there was no gaming establishment called Apache Casino in downtown Las Vegas.
The casino under the Apache Hotel, whatever its name, to my knowledge has always been leased. The owners have always refused to sell the land to the lessor of the casino. This is why the Apache Hotel is still there in all its glory above Binion's Horseshoe. Sorry! The news bureau putting Apache on one or two post cards doesn't make it so. I can understand the mix up because of who owns the land. Best, Jim
