Gene,
The Apache was a Hotel, the Apache was a bar, the Apache was a cafe.....and the Apache had gambling.
With all due respect, the fact that it had gambling makes it a casino in my book.
Of course I can't find the copy of the CCTN that I'm looking for..... but if I could, I'd tell you the issue number and page number where you could see copies of a postcard or two showing gambling at the Apache. I think one was roulette....and I kind of think there was another one too....there were also a couple of chips found. Anyway, Rich Burgel found and interviewed a bartender who used to work at the Apache. The bartender showed/gave/sold him napkins, chips, swizzle sticks, postcards, I can't remember exatly what....but it's all in the article that I can't find!
Long-time casino ashtray collectors are CONVINCED that the Apache had their name on their ashtrays. I asked someone once, and the logic was because they had their name on matches. Sooooo...I'm not 100% convinced that an Apache ashtray is out there, but I am convinced the Apache was a casino.
