You would think I'd have learned by now to stay out of these threads. I try. I really try .
I think the original intent of this discussion is to define a clear set of terms for any two collectors to use in communicating chip condition. This should not preclude someone from using "non-sanctioned" terms, or otherwise describing their chips above and beyond some club criteria.
Everybody knows what Andy means when he says uncirculated. Nobody doubts that when Andy says uncirculated, he means not only that the chips were bought directly from the cage without seeing table play, but that they are in the best condition possible.
I think Rick's point is that the term uncirculated, without Andy's reputation to back it up, does not necessarily imply a quality of condition. In its strictest interpretation, uncirculated only says the chip never saw play, not that it has been properly cared for. Meaning no disrespect to Andy, and having no desire to attempt to influnce Andy's choice of terms for his fine merchandise, I have to agree with Rick.
Clearly, the term "mint" implies a quality of condition and preservation of a highest level. I think this auction shows just how unambiguous that term is. We should all strive to communicate the condition of our chips so well.
