A brief report. I understand that my old nemises, Gene Trimble, reported on Atlantis while I was gone so didn't read his post. If my report differs keep in mind that I was paying my own way.
Atlantis itself is fabulous; because my friend doesn't golf or do tennis stuff (tho she was a fine hs athlete) we stayed close to the beach, pools and bars. We learned early that if you want to get reservations at the top four or five restaurants in Atlantis, you have to make them two days ahead (two weeks ahead for the Villa D'Este, the top dog). But what the travel agent didn't tell us I learned quickly; show up at opening (6 p.m.) even tho the restaurant is full and taking no reservations and you will be seated.
Until Friday, we had little sun but enjoyed the surf, nonetheless. The casino is no unlike any Vegas or AC casino; most table games began at $15 and Friday night I could not find a black jack table under $25--since I can't count to ten unless I remove my socks which the management frowned on, and since my basic sucks, I stayed away from the big tables. Had some fun at Let it Ride, scoring enough Thursday night to cover my indiscretions the other three nights. Didn't like the 25 cent or $1 video poker games, however. Although both have 9/6 poker, the pay table only pays 2 for three of a kind and that is discouraging. The newest machines in AC & Vegas are not yet in at Atlantis but we happily lost our money to the old standbyes.
Didn't leave Paradise Island for Nassau--the latter area was depressing; building after building showing age and ugliness; gaudy peeling paint; shuttered windows; junked cars; it reminded me of Syracuse.
See you all in Vegas in June.
