You are absolutely right, Jaime Sale and David Pelletier should have the gold hanging around their necks.

That said, had they been awarded the gold medals, would you even remember their names today? Next year at this time they’d be wearing Snoopy costumes in the Charlie Brown On Ice show. Now, they’re worldwide celebrities… doing the talk shows, having fun on stage with Bare Naked Ladies, etc. And I think the “etc.” part will be huge for these two. Particularly for Ms. Sale.
