Steve actually my response was directed more to Rick than to you.
I certainly agree that it would be nice to have shows located where they can reach as broad an audience as possible. I too have no local shows, living in Upstate New York (even if a show where to be held in AC the drive from here to AC is almost as long as the flight from here to Vegas).
I have been to two conventions, 1 show in Illinios, and 1 show in Tunica and I will be heading to Vegas for the convention again this year. I would like to go to every show, but I can't.
Rather than mess with succesful convention planning, it seems that we should be encouraging people to promote shows. The easiest way for us to do that is to support people who promote shows.
That can be done by us as individuals and even by the club. No there probably will never be a big casino chip show in Albany, NY or West Virginia, but there could be a small show within driving distance, or maybe just a couple of chip people at a coin show.
