John B's comment about the cases and convention materials that are stored year-round in Las Vegas is a very important consideration regarding logistics and transportation to other convention cities around the country.
As far as Atlantic City is concerned, in my humble opinion ... even IF the club could get a casino to block off several hundred rooms on a weekend (forget about it) most members would balk at the $150-$200 per night hotel room rate ... and secondly; A.C. being a tremendous drive in market... most members who live less than a couple of hundred miles would drive back and forth each day ... or stay in one of the motels outside of the city... and not support the host convention hotel.
Transportation to the city poses another problem. There are NO major airlines that service Atlantic City. Spirit Airlines is the biggest airline that flies into A.C. All other flights would be to Philadelphia or Newark.
It seems to me, that some are wanting to re-invent the wheel. Each past CC & GTCC convention held in Las Vegas was more successful than the convention the year before. Why try to fix something that ain't broke? I think that every previous Convention Chairman would agree that Las Vegas offers the club (and it's members) the most bang for it's buck....
