A lot of people arrive on Tuesday and leave on Sunday. I find that if I don't get there early I don't have any time (or energy) left to visit the casinos. If you really want to see everything at the convention plan on three long days. I normally get there at 10:00 and leave around 3 or 4 and never even take time for lunch. You can't go wrong if you stay at the Tropicanna. The convention rooms are very nice and the pool is great. They even have swim up Blackjack. I don't really care for the Trops casino but you can walk to every type of casino imaginable from the hole in the wall Boardwalk to luxurious Mandalay Bay.
