From the limited trading that I've done, usually it's same denomination for same denomination. I don't think that anyone would take offense at any other type of trade as long as it's same value for same value. Most traders seem willing to work something out. My last two trades have been: mine for nothing yet (LOL).

Some of these mega traders, like Sonic Susong, could probably give you a more better trading guide.

BTW, do those Cherokee chips come in any fractional or $2.50 denominations?
