Todd, First of all, my comment about paying taxes on tips were directed to California dealers. Please read the message carefully. I am also saddened that they have to pay out more than a weeks pay on insurance for them and their family.
All I'm saying is if they are not happy at their present job, find another one. If they are not earning enough money at one job, work two jobs.
I, at one time, work three jobs at one time. One was delivering newspapers in the morning (from 2 to 6), then on to my regular job at the Los Angeles Times for 9 to five (excluding and hour and one half drive each way, and then preparing taxes during the season from about 7 until 11.
I bit---ed and complained as well, but I didn't blame anyone other than myself for my situation.
I was the master of my own future. I did not feel that any of my employers owed me anything or that I deserved anything. If I worked, I got paid. We had absolutely no benefits of any kind.
My employers owed me only one thing and that was to provide me with the agreed upon check at the end of the pay period if I did my work correctly. I provided for my own insurance, retirement and everything else I now have.
I'm sorry if you don't agree that it is my responsibility to take care of myself. I don't need any kind of spokesman, union or otherwise to provide for me and my family.
