I bid half of low book (low book = $600, I bid $300) and got it for $214. I bid on a lot of chips this way as, if I get a good enough deal, I can add a valuable chip to my collection and feel GREAT about the value!

I bid $20 only after determining that it was from the excavation. You mention $25 as face but, of course, it isn't worth face as the Dunes is gone, right? Most collector's I know won't offer $5 for an excavation chip. I was trying to be fair in case he wanted to still sell it, knowing it was worth far less as an excavation chip!
