You summed it up more pleasantly than I did Ron.
Here's the real lowdown .... The chips were initially made available on Monday, January 7th to Trump Plaza employees only. I received an email on Monday from a bullies fan/chip collector who simply told me that "the chips went out on the tables this morning" .... with no mention of "to employees only".
Brenda and I raced 75 miles south down the Garden State Parkway only to be rebuffed by Trump Management that the chips were being sold that day to Trump Plaza employees with photo i.d. only. I filed an unofficial complaint with the Casino Control Commission agent at the casino floor podium ... who summoned the Shift Manager, Chris Ford, and I explained my objections. He assured me that the chips would be available to the public at noon on Wednesday, January 9th. (I heard an unconfirmed rumor that one Trump Plaza employee tried to purchase the entire rack, but was refused).
The line began forming around 11 a.m. on Wednesday, the 9th, well before I got there. I was about 9th or 10th in line around 11:40 a.m. along with my brother-in-law as Brenda could not accompany me for the Wednesday release time, but she took a bus down to A.C. later in the afternoon with her sister from Brick. Tommy Thompson and Barbara were also on hand to help me out obtaining chips if I needed help (which I did). Up until 12 noon, Trump Plaza employees were still purchasing chips while the "public" waited in line for the magic hour to arrive. (The few TP employees I saw purchasing chips prior to noon only bought one or two chips for themselves). Shortly before noon, there were at least 20 or more people on line waiting to purchase chips when the pit boss and floor supervisor announced that a (generous and very fair) limit of 2 stacks of each chip (Bullies and Betty Boops) would be limited to each customer .... and that if anyone wanted more than 2 stacks, they would be allowed to return to the back of the line. I can personally vouch, and so can BriaN and others who were present, that everyone in line went through the first time and purchased however many chips they needed up to the two stack limit. Those who wanted/needed more than the two stack limit went though a second time. After everybody on line was done ... there were still chips left on the table for sale.... with no one in line wanting to buy more.
I returned to Trump Plaza later in the afternoon to pick up Brenda and her sister at the bus terminal and deliberately checked the roulette table the chips were being sold from ... and found that chips were still available at that late hour. The four of us then went to eat at Resorts and we returned to Trump Plaza to park the car as we had tickets for the Bullies game next door that evening. After the game, we walked through the casino floor, past the roulette table on the way to the parking garage and chips were still on the table for sale. BriaN has posted in another thread that a friend of his went by the same table around 11 p.m. that same evening and the chips were still available for sale.
That's about all I know .... except that there was NO WAY IN HeLL THAT THESE CHIPS SOLD OUT IN 14 MINUTES ... AND ANYONE WHO SAYS DIFFERENTLY IS ..... ah, shall we mildly say "very deceitful" as Ron Piltzer says.
