I scanned all of my chips and my currency. It took a LONG time and I went to great pains to get the chips straight etc. For someone else to take my scans does not bother me too much yet (I really don't know how many times they have been copied, if any), but I CAN see why it could bother others. I have seen copyrights written across the images in an effort to curb image theft. THAT is what started me wondering about the copyright notice printed across the image. Who owns it? You because you scanned it? The casino because that's their registered trademark? Can you copyright anybody's artwork just because you scanned it? While I don't think someone should go and copy all of your scans without your permission but I'm confused about publishing images of someone else's chips without their permission or is their work considered 'public'. Something tells me no, but it's just not worth the expense or bad public relations (to the casinos) to enforce the infringements.
