$49 for a $1 chip that was just released is a fairly hefty price. But it is not the highest amount I have seen offered for a newly issued $1 Nevada chip. As I recall, Mandalay Bay put out Chinese New Year chips, Year of the Dragon and Year of the Snake, that were getting much higher prices.
The dealer did not determine how many chips were made, the casino did. If you want to find fault, look first at the casino. We all know that only 250 of these chips were made, which is considerably less that the Mandalay Bay chips, I am surprised that the dealer is not asking even higher prices.
This is really simple stuff. If you don't like the price don't buy it. If enough people believe the same way that you do then the price will come down. I'll bet the price will probably stabilize at a higher level. You are free to sell chips at any price you want. If you want to sell this chip for a lower price, please go ahead. I'll buy one from you.
