I am coming in in the middle of your discussion and have not read posts previous to this thread. From what I have read here my definitions in this subject would be as follows.
I will try to use some of your definitions as a launching point to refine or expand on.
COIN -- Produced with a cash value and "LEGAL TENDER" and redeemable anywhere including merchants, banks etc. Value honored by the federal government
TOKEN -- Produced with a cash or other specified value but valuable only when redeemed with the person, establishment or organization who issued it. A Silver Strike is a type of Token. It does have a cash value and can be redeamed or exchanged at the cage for cash. I am not sure if any casinos will take one as a table bet. Can someone answer this. A Silver Strike is not a coin as it can not be redeamed publicly and is not "Legal Tender"
Slot Token -- Any token issued through or played through a Slot Machine. A Silver Strike would also be a type of Slot Token as it is issued through a slot machine as a part of the machines payoff. I do not, personally, think there is a difference if the coin is playable back through the machine or not. The point is that the receipt or use of the token requires a slot machine somewhere in the process. Other types of tokens would be drink tokens, brothel tokens? amusement tokens, like the ones at Chuck E Cheese's or your local pinball arcade, Bus or Train Tokens. These tokens have a value established on their faces. They can be exchanged for the face value in cash or the service passage or product specified. A Silver Strike would not be considered a Premium Token as it does have a cash face value and is redeemable from the cage.
Silver Strike -- A specific type of Slot Token distinguished by the fact that there is Silver in the coin. Distinguished by the cheracteristic gold band around a silver center or gold center surrounded by a silver ring ... There are many variations. Some are plated with silver and some have solid centers. Many of these tokens have .999 fine silver within them. Tokens like the $10 Holograms or enamaled or hand painted color tokens sometimes distributed through the same machines as Silver Strikes should not be defined as such since they contain no silver. Perhaps they should be defined by their distinctive features like Hologram Tokens or Colorized Token or Enamaled Tokens.
Premium Token. A token, as defined above, that is produced or issued for the sole purpose to commemorate or honor something. Does not hold a cash value. Only value is in it's value as a collectable or souvenier. Perhaps this is where a definition change should be made. A Premium Token is not issued with a cash value as the Term Token would be defined. Therefore these items should more accurately be defined as Medalions.
Medals -- Medal is not to be confused with metal. Metal is a material that medals are often made of. OK, I know you all knew that but I couldn't resist. Medals is an abbreviated form of the term medalions but there could be a differentiation here in that a Medal is often produced as an award for some accomplishment or act. Military medals for example. To award these items with a proper distinction perhaps the Premium Tokens mentioned could be defined as Medalions.
I am sure I have gone on enough. For whatever it is worth. These are my thoughts.
Happy Holidays
