Well I don't really trust Websters for foreign language but OK I'll check My Webster's New Universal Unabridged Dictionary

That is the entire entry so I looked under jetton
jetton, n.[Fr. jeton, a throw, counter, from jeter, to throw, cast.] a small metal counter used in some games of cards.
I find this interesting because it would seem then that the word does not seem to be related to the word token in the generic sense.
And of course some will find the reference to metal to be interesting.
