Yes I got the chips from Carl. Castaways supposedly ordered the chips. Do you think I am correct about the spun centers? You seem to have Bud Jones info. The single $500 you hosted a scanned of is spun. If this was from an employee then maybe the real thing the casino used. Therefore they were able to reorder like chips which at that date were made with a smooth center coin.
Yes it was odd that these various chips popped up. I recall seeing them all around at antique shops. Being called back up & chips that never got put in use, etc. Still if the casino had ordered them they are worth something. I felt they were good enough to collect. When a shop on Charleston got a bunch of smooth mold Holiday International I recall being sceptical. I didn't buy & the chips got bought up by someone else. A big lot was being sold together.
I do know that the smooth mold Holiday International & Silverbirds were fakes made up later as they were closed when made. I don't see this around much anymore. Which is great as I really hated to see those & do know they were phoney chips as like chips were never made.
By the way I do not list any of the above two chips in my book. I did not want a collector to look up even the fakes & be mislead. By not putting them in there & a person not finding them I hope most would draw a conclusion that the chips are not authentic.
Now, like chips, of Castaway's etc. were used. SO what category do they go in? They are not phoney. Not fantasy- item never made.
