I recently put a small ad in the classified section of a local paper mentioning that I was buying casino chips. A man called me last night and said he had about 20 or so chips from an obsolete casino. He didn't remember the name of the casino, but will get the chips from where they're stored and call me back in a couple of days.
After he shows me the chips and tells me how much he wants for them do I have an obligation to inform him of the "value" as listed in TCR and TOUSCCPG (Campiglia) if it's higher than what he's asking but I'm willing to meet his price? Am I ethically wrong to meet his price and turn around and sell some of them to recoup my investment?
I don't even know what these chips are yet, but he mentioned that he sold a couple for $75 each to someone he found by looking at eBay buyers. He sounded like he is willing to give me a much better deal.
Assuming they're each worth $75 and he asks $30 (20x$30 is way out of line with my budget), I've thought about advising him of the "value range" and offering to broker the sale to one or more members of CCGTCC through this board in exchange for one or two of the chips. That way he would get more than I'm willing to pay, you guys would get access to them (assuming they're something you want) and he would get a pretty fair determination of what the market really is.
I'd like to hear some feedback as to how others would handle this situation.
