Its a specialized field so I can't really give a definite answer.

But I tend to agree that in so far as permission has already been granted its not likely they can just remove permission.

I suppose in future additions they could, but unless they change all the numbers that would only affect chips added to the new book.

In regard to the use of the TCR or KMW notations, I doubt that the authors care that much about it to actually expend any money to fight over it beyond sending letters. I know I wouldn't.
