Congrats! I haven't had a dog since my german shepard passed away almost 10 years ago. I have one bit of advice: put the time in to working with him and in training him. Dogs learn very quickly ...okay, some dogs are just plain stupid).

There's nothing like the unconditional love from a canine companion.
