Here's an interesting tidbit...
Back in the early '90's, the builder I work for did the Toys R Us Warehouse in Rialta (sp?), CA. (I am trying to remember, but I THINK this building was about a quarter-million S.F.).
Jerry Wall was the general contractor (or construction management, can't remember for sure and we were the erector on the project.
In January 2001, my boss and I were in LV for business. My boss was a real good sport and "took me chippin' " between meetings although he is clearly baffled by the obsession.
Over lunch he asked me if I remembered Jerry Wall. I met Jerry briefly when he was in Phoenix at a status conference and my boss recalled with amazement how Jerry had used his chip collection to acquire a performance bond on this project. (which had to be a million dollars)
Bill (my boss) was amazed that something like casino chips could amount to such a substantial value
and as a result, even picks me up chips occasionally when he can in his travels
When I returned from Vegas, I asked Mel Jung if we could be talking about the "same" Jerry Wall... and it appears we are.
When I learned that Mr Wall's health had declined, I was saddened ... and I am disappointed I didn't get to speak to him about the hobby when I had the chance.
Small, small world, eh?
