You can either have the ad either remain at the top of your website or as a pop-up.
Out of all of the free website services I've used Tripod is the best and Geocities is the worst.
Of course for the one website I maintain for a local political party (I'm not saying which) we pay $249 a year and it gives us a crap load of features.
But for your website I would recommend just going to Tripod.
