It was a very traumatic day at the Poole house. My daughter got out of school early today and brought friends to play. They came in through the garage and as soon as the door was open Coco darted out and into the front yard to play. The kids followed trying to catch her, it was a big game to her. She was out no more than 2 minutes when she was hit by a car and rolled over and over under the car as the kids watched. None of the wheels rolled over her, and as soon as she popped out from under the car she ran like a bullet down the street and around a curve. Everyone followed calling her. She just vanished into thin air. We feared she was disoriented and lost, or dead from massive internal injuries and laying in a flowerbed somewhere. Looking for a 1½ mile radius of our house every 30 min ~ 1 hour we never found her after 5 hours. Friends and neighbors looked, the mailman, you name it they were looking. Tree trimmers were cutting branches for a power line a block away and found her buried in a bush cowering down and wouldn’t come out. Some watched the dog as others drove the huge truck guided by a sheriff’s car to our house to tell us. Gail went and got Coco, scared to death but wagging her tail and barely a scratch (only 7 very minor abrasions found after several examinations). Coco is now bouncing around and she has been to PetsMart for a few special treats and a couple of new toys. She’s downed a half of a bag treats; I’ve downed a few shots of gin. Coco has been the center of attention and she loves that. It would appear she’s back to normal, and I hope that she is now scared as hell of cars (in case she gets out again, and she will). Coco and me didn’t do our 1½ walk today. My little walking buddy has had enough for one day! Whew! Me too Coco.
