The following message has been posted on AOL's Travel Las Vegas Bulletin Board and on USENET alt.vacation.las-vegas . I thought I would post it here as well since there may be some who are also following the status of National Airlines.
An article written and published in the Las Vegas Sun on October 11, 2001 indicates that National Airlines has now abandoned their plan to sell the airline or seek a new investor. Instead they are looking toward the Congressional bailout of the airlines in order to prop up the troubled airline. They have reportedly already been offered 22 million in grant money from which they have already received half of that. The funds that they have received so far have gone to catch up on some debt and to retrain employees on security matters and to strengthen the doors of their cockpits. The Congressional bailout also allocates money to the airlines in the form of Loan Guarantees. Those guarantees are available to BR airlines as long as the airline has a Plan of Reorganization on file. National says that they will now be spending their time emphasizing on getting The Plan before creditors and the court by December 4th with the Confirmation Hearing scheduled for the 28th. An exerpt from the article follows:
"The company is expected to make a case for loan approvals by showing that a high percentage of its business involves areas severely impacted by the attacks. Two of National's most successful routes are the ones linking McCarran with New York City at John F. Kennedy International Airport and with Newark, N.J. Another important route for National has been its single daily nonstop flight between Las Vegas and Washington Ronald Reagan National Airport."
